History

The original Kamakhya Temple dates back to the 8th–9th century during the Kamarupa Kingdom. It was destroyed during invasions and later rebuilt in the 16th century by King Naranarayana and his brother Chilarai of the Koch dynasty. The temple has since remained one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India and continues to preserve centuries-old religious traditions.
